Dahlia Digging + Dividing Workshop

Sunday, October 25 | 1:00–3:00 PM
Desert Edge Flower Farm | Caldwell, Idaho
$65 per person

Digging, dividing, and storing dahlias can feel intimidating—especially the first time you pull a big clump out of the ground and have no idea where to start.

This small, hands-on workshop is designed to take some of the guesswork out of the process and give you the confidence to tackle your own dahlias at home.

We’ll work through the process together using dahlias grown right here at Desert Edge. You’ll get to see how I dig my plants, learn what you’re looking for once a clump is out of the ground, and get hands-on experience dividing tubers yourself.

We’ll cover:

  • When and how to dig your dahlias
  • How to properly lift and clean a clump
  • Dahlia tuber anatomy
  • How to identify the crown, neck, body, and eyes
  • How to divide a clump into viable tubers
  • What to keep and what to toss
  • Preparing your tubers for winter
  • Winter storage basics
  • Common problems to watch for during storage
  • Plenty of time for questions throughout the class

Your registration includes:

  • Approximately 2 hours of hands-on instruction
  • The opportunity to practice digging and dividing alongside me
  • A simple take-home guide with the key steps to reference later
  • 3 different dahlia varieties from Desert Edge Flower Farm to take home and grow next season

This isn’t meant to be an overwhelming, information-packed class. My goal is to keep it simple, practical, and hands-on so you can leave feeling comfortable doing the same thing with your own dahlias.

Limited spots are available to keep the class small and interactive.

Your purchase reserves your spot in the workshop. Please dress for the weather and plan on getting your hands a little dirty!
